Feature Wedding in Wedluxe Magazine

•July 23, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Another wedding we shot has been featured in the latest issue of Wedluxe magazine!  We feel extremely honoured to be a part of this wonderful publication:)  Here’s the spread:

Sarah & Padra were our 07/07/07 couple last year.  We captured some pretty amazing images from their wedding and I’m so glad they made it in the magazine.  Sarah was so excited when we asked them for permission to submit the images to the magazine.  She told me that Wedluxe was one of her favourite magazines while planning her wedding.  Here’s a few more images from their wedding for you courious types:)

Trisha & Alfred

•July 10, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Ok, we’re a little behind in posting our wedding favourites:)  Trisha and Alfred were married in May and already we’re right in the thick of a busy July full of more weddings and lots of family portrait sessions!  We’ll definitely have to pace ourselves and I’m hoping we’ll get to post as many of our sessions on this blog as possible.

Trisha and Alfred were married at the BrockHouse back in May.  I know if they read this blog, they will be rolling their eyes in embarrassment when I tell you they kind of reminded me of the hit TV show “Grey’s Anatomy”:)  Both work at the BC Children’s Hospital where they met.  I’m sure their relationship didn’t have all the drama that happens on television thankfully!

Trisha and her family got ready at the Sutton Place Hotel before meeting Alfred and his best man for photos.

Fortunately for them, they chose one of the hottest May long weekends on record to get married.  The weather was gorgeous!

There was definitely an Asian flare to their wedding from the Asian-inspired wedding cake to the chopsticks that were given away as wedding favours.  One of my favourite moments from their day was when Alfred gave a very emotional speech and tribute to his parents.   Doogie Houser, eat your heart out!

One of my favourite shots of the day was during their first dance.  I had just recently seen an exhibit at the Vancouver Art Gallery called Truth and Beauty on pictorialism in the late nineteen & early twentieth centuries and it inspired me to take this photo.

Happy Birthday Micah!

Meet Micah…one of the most adorable and hilarious kids I’ve had the priviledge of knowing.  Micah turned three years old last week and we celebrated his birthday with a fun portrait session of him hamming it up in front of the camera.  This is one cute kid, and the M&Ms I had in the studio was a great motivator:)  Before he left my studio, he told me to not finish the M&Ms because it’ll make him sad.  Isn’t it great that he’s able to be in touch with his emotional side to get what he wants?

From Brides..to Babies

Relationships…one of the main reason why I became a photographer. Relationships bind people together and as a photographer, I wanted my images to draw people closer together in relation to one another. That includes myself as well. I wanted to continue to build relationships with all my clients and to become a photographer that would capture all the important moments of their lives beyond just their wedding day. Over the past couple of months, I’ve had the priviledge of doing just that. Many of my clients who had us photograph their wedding day are now starting new families and we’ve had the wonderful opportunity to capture the beautiful moments between Mommy, Daddy and Baby:)

Welcome Colobong Family (Karen, Jeffrey, and Sophia)

Welcome Yang Family (Angelique, Brian, and Isaiah)

Welcome Chan Family (Winnie, Vincent, and Nathan)

All the little ones I photographed were so incredibly adorable and so very well behaved in the front of the camera!  They all knew that I was taking their photo and this made my job so easy.  I’m so incredibly proud of all of the new families and wish them all the best – congratulations!  We have more family sessions booked throughout this summer and I’m looking forward to going out on location and having some fun outdoors with them.  For those families who wish to take advantage of the nice weather to capture some unforgettable moments with your family, please contact the studio to book a session and or to get more information.

Engagement Sessions…Good Times!

•June 17, 2008 • 1 Comment

This past spring we wanted to think up some new and unique places to take our couples for their engagement sessions.  We wanted to make these sessions unique to their personalities…images that would describe who they were, what they liked doing or places that were meaningful to them.  We love engagement shoots – it gives us a great opportunity to get to know our couples a bit better before their wedding day.  I find it’s much easier photographing a couple on their wedding day when they’ve done an engagement shoot with me – there’s just no surprises and they know exactly how we work. I also get the chance to check out which angles work best for them so that we’ll be prepared on the day of the wedding to make them look their best:)

We’re right in the thick of wedding season so getting a decent day off has been difficult.  Believe it or not, it’s the engagement shoots that give me the opportunity to kick back and have some fun!  So on that note, I had the opportunity to go

grocery shopping at Urban Fare with Kim and Alvin, who have a love for all things culinary

wine tasting with Cindy & Ryan at the Sutton Place Wine Store

visit the Cypress Mountain look out where Michael proposed to Lynn

And hangout with Janice and Dave in Yaletown for an afternoon

A special thank you to the people at the Sutton Place Wine Merchant as well as the Urban Fare in Coal Harbour for granting us permission to shoot inside:)  Good times were had at all of my engagement sessions and I had a blast with all of my couples.  Who could possibly complain when you get to drink good wine, eat good food and visit beautiful scenic spots around Vancouver?  I love my job!!

Fereshteh & Kouros

•June 3, 2008 • Leave a Comment

We have been so swamped over the past month shooting weddings, family sessions and engagement sessions, we have been a little delinquent with our Blog.  We have a lot of catching up to do!

Let’s start with Fereshteh & Kouros…

Fereshteh & Kouros live in California and decided to choose Vancouver as a destination to bring all their friends and family together to celebrate their wedding.  Planning a wedding when you live out of town can get a little tricky.  Thankfully, they had some good friends living in Vancouver who were able to give them some great advice and point them in the right direction (thanks Fariba!).  This wedding screamed gorgeous florals, beautiful details and a couple with great taste!

Gown:  Judd Waddell

Shoe: BCBG

We had the fortunes of photographing the bouquet and all floral arrangements from Hilary Miles.

Fereshteh & Kouros held a traditional Persian Ceremony at the Sutton Place Hotel, one of my favourite hotels to photograph.  The couple had spent a lot of time preparing for the significant Persian items needed for their ceremony and many of the items were flown in from California.

Then it was off to take some photos around Vancouver…

Reception was held in the Versaille room at the Sutton Place Hotel.

Probably one of my favourite moments from the wedding was their first dance.  The love I saw in this couple’s eyes for one another was truly sincere.  You could tell they were completely crazy about one another:) It brought me to tears just being there to witness it!

And of course, what’s a Persian wedding without dancing!

Spring Fever – Selena & Carmen

•May 1, 2008 • 1 Comment

April is a beautiful month to get married.  Spring is in bloom and you start to experience a warmth in the air…except this year!!  For those of you who live in Vancouver, you’ll know what I mean.  We probably experienced one of the coldest seasons this past year in quite some time.  In late March and even parts of April, we had snow to deal with!  So when it came to photographing Selena and Carmen’s wedding in early April, we really didn’t know what to expect.  We just prayed for decent weather and kept our fingers and toes crossed!  Thankfully, we were blessed with some great weather that day.  In fact, the weather was so nice that Selena and her bridesmaids walked the two blocks to the church from her mother’s house!

Selena wore a beautiful Vera Wang gown from Something Blue.  Carmen’s family owns Kalena’s Shoes so all the beautiful italian leather shoes worn that day were from their store.

The casual stroll down the block to St. Helen’s parish.  Love the energy ladies!

Cherry Blossoms were a huge part of the floral arrangements (one great benefit of getting married in the spring).  Floral:  Granville Island Florist

I loved the intimate moments we captured with this sweet couple!

Reception:  Fairmont Waterfront Hotel

Cake:  True Confections

OK..for those professional photographers out there reading this blog and contemplating investing in the new Nikon D3 camera …contemplate no more!  This camera is BRILLIANT and works magic, especially in high ISO settings (the images on your left were all shot using available light on the D3 – truly clean images.

We had such a great time with this couple who kept us so entertained throughout the day with their great personality and sense of humour. THANK YOU Selena & Carmen for being such amazing people!  Now we’re just hoping for some warmer weather soon…I’m hoping that Selena & Carmen will bring some back with them from their honeymoon!

Editorial catch-up

Since I’ve been away, there’s been a few images I shot over the past couple of months that’s been published so I finally get a chance to share with you all the great people I’ve had a chance to meet and photograph.

Severn Suzuki feature in Granville Online

The image I shot of Severn Suzuki was finally published in the March issue of Granville Magazine Online.  It’s a lovely write-up about the sought-after public speaker so I encourage you to have a read.

Although I love the image they used for the magazine

My favourites are the candid moments Severn had while being interviewed by the writer:

MBA feature in BCBusiness Magazine

I had the chance to meet two very bright women for the MBA issue of BCBusiness Magzine.

This year’s MBA guide talked about two different types of MBA learning.  Distance or online-learning (through video conferencing) and the traditional classroom setting.

Casey was one of the students featured in the distance learning article:

And Rebecca was one of the students featured for the traditional classroom article:

Regardless of what learning method they chose, I admire both women for being so determined to pursue higher education and also working jobs at the same time!  It’s truly amazing and I wish both of them all the best with their studies.

I’m back!

•April 9, 2008 • 1 Comment

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter holiday.  I can’t believe it’s already April and our wedding season is now in full swing!  I flew back into town last week and wanted to share with you some photos I took while I was on holiday.  I spent some time traveling with family and during a stop over in Las Vegas enroute to LA, my sisters and I decided to take my mom on a day trip to see the Grand Canyon.  There was too many of us to fly there so we decided to take the long bus ride over.  It was a long day trip from Las Vegas but definitely worth it in the end.  The views of the Canyon are just stunning and I wish we could have spent more time there.

A view from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Sunset over the Arizona skyline taken on the bus ride back to Vegas.  Breathtaking!

Being a visual person, I remember moments in my life through visual snapshots.  This trip to the Grand Canyon will definitely be remembered for it’s beautiful scenery, which will remind me of the great moments shared with my family.  For the first time in over 15 years, I had the opportunity to travel with all of my three sisters, their kids and my mom to the States.  It was a wonderful trip and I’m thankful to have the chance to do it.

Now we’re back in the studio and I have so many beautiful images to show you from the wedding we shot last week!  I’ll have those up shortly so stay tuned for those.

•March 15, 2008 • 1 Comment

I’ll be taking some time off and heading south for spring break.  The studio will be closed during this time but I’ll still have access to email if you need to reach me.  I wish everyone a very Happy Easter and see you in April!
